In the context of the annexation of Crimea and the current war of aggression against Ukraine, the Putin regime began to establish the West years ago as a political, ideological and even moral enemy of Russian society.
SPIEGEL: Does the regime succeed in that?
Bönker: A clear majority of the Russian population is receptive to anti-Western propaganda about the alleged decadence of the West and to the narrative of the NATO threat. It corresponds to a wagon fortress mentality that gives Russia a special place in the world.
