Marshall Rosenberg gave this workshop in Denmark around 1995. He shows how to express and hear the two main messages of human communication – Please – and – Thank you. Both of these message have two modes, hearing and speaking. He explains what he means by ‘Jackal’ and ‘Giraffe’ communication in the first chapter.
Hearing and Saying ‘Please’
In the first half of the workshop he teaches how to express a ‘please’ so that the other party first can hear your ‘please’ in the way you meant it – and then – in the second step – make clear that you mean it as a request and not a demand – so that the other person may decide if they want to fulfill your request with joy.
Hearing and Saying ‘Thank You’
In the latter part Marshall talks about how to express and how to hear a ‘Thank you’ in Giraffe – and how a ‘Thank you’ is tragically and habitually thought, said and heard in Jackal.
Enjoy the wisdom and possible practice.
