Giraffe taking a shot at contributing to a more compassionate quality of relationship, asking her partner to share a feeling that is alive here and now. Marshall illustrates how the giraffe keeps hearing feelings and needs, as well as perseveres in pulling the jackal’s ears.
Time codes
- 00:00 Courage is needed for any request, because it can be heard as criticism in a jackal world
- 00:17 Start of roleplay – Giraffe wanting a better connection, requesting honesty about feelings when jackal hears about this need – Jackal hearing criticism
- 00:44 Repeating the request a second time, now jackal takes responsibility for the feeling of the giraffe.
- 01:15 Third try, again asking for reflection – this time it works out.
- 01:54 Giraffe checks if jackal now still hears criticism – nope. Now wants to know how jackal feels with this request.
- 02:05 Jackal using impersonal language – “it” and “that” – still defensive, protected …
- 02:18 Giraffe loans giraffe ears to the jackal again, helping with possible fears of the jackal, in this unknown and perhaps scary world of feelings
- 02:49 Closing – the giraffe celebrates that both share the same intention – connection is valuable and we want to try to get there. We will take the time that is needed.
